Relive the good old days...
Past meets present at the 49th annual Skaneateles Antique Show and Sale, hosted by the Skaneateles United Methodist Church. This year’s event is planned for Friday, July 11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, July 12 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. This popular summer event will be held at Austin Pavilion, three blocks north of Route 20, on the corner of Jordan Road and Austin Street in Skaneateles. Admission is $5.50 for a one-day pass and $6 for a two-day pass.
The annual event began 49 years ago with only 17 antique dealers; today it welcomes over 70 dealers and also accommodates numerous craft booths. The first antique shows were held in the First United Methodist Church. Due to the success of the event, it eventually outgrew the space and was moved to Austin Pavilion in the 1980s.
Original tradition included the First United Methodist Church women preparing and serving two full-course dinners, as well as operating a snack bar. The 2008 Skaneateles Antique Show and Sale will feature a varied menu provided by Doug’s Fish Fry in addition to the church’s traditional pie tent including homemade pies and other desserts. During the 1970s, hostesses dressed in old-fashioned attire and floral decorations, paintings and historical exhibits were displayed. Many of these traditions persist.
